The Hunger Games

Well frankly if you’re not familiar with this movie you must have just crawled out from under a rock. So far this movie has been blowing away the box office and with good reason. I’m going to say this is so far my favorite movie so far this year. Now this statement is bold to say the least but there still several very strong looking movies set to come out yet this year. The Hunger Games is a film adaptation of the book by (Suzanne Collins) as of now I have not read it or any others from the series as of yet but I plan to change that very soon. This has the potential to become a very successful movie franchise.

The Hunger Games is based in a post-revolutionary/near doomsday world where there consists the capital and then 12 districts or regions of people. The lower numbered districts are where you may find you rich and spoiled who live off of the fruits of other such as where the people of the higher number districts reside. The main character Katniss played by Jennifer Lawrence is from the coal mine district 12. every year in a way to keep the peace the capital host the hunger games as a way to keep all the districts in check and as a reminder of what happened in the past. Every year two people from each district, a young man and women between the age of 12 and 18, are selected to compete in the hunger games a brutal battle of survival with only one able to live and be claimed the winner. You follow Katniss as she battles her way through the games working both against the other contestants and the capital controlling the games. You watch as she constantly outwits the capital and the other mostly single minded contestants. Katniss is able to work with one of the young contestants in order to bring down the alliance of the lower numbered districts. Eventually finding her way to the young man from she came with from her district.

This is an amazing film that is able to capture your mind and heart as it brings you up and down in cadences trials. With well put together visuals and an amazing soundtrack you are taken through the games. This film utilizes in part the ever growing popular technique of a hand-held camera without over doing and sending you on a shaky roller coaster ride. This movie utilized its share of dramatic action scenes and beautiful special effects will still maintaining a believable atmosphere. I would recommend this movie to anyone who enjoys a wonderfully put together story, action and drama as well as a stylistic film. This would make an excellent date movie and is suitable for most of the family; a lot of the fighting may be a bit much for the younger audiences do to some realistic graphic scenes. I hope you enjoy The Hunger Games and may the odds be ever in your favor.
